Gentlemen’s Quest of Tampa Inc. is committed to helping youth become productive members of society. Teenage boys have the opportunity to share their individual hopes and fears in a safe environment. Through structured activities, the boys learn from their mentors, their peers, and themselves. They are given the tools to build their intellectual, emotional, and relational capacity and construct an identity based on respect, accountability, and responsibility so they can embark on the path to manhood unfettered. The students engage in weekly experiences that result in enhanced relationships, increased school performance, strengthened family connections, and positive contributions to society, while being freed from addiction and violence.
After being referred to the program, each student has an initial interview with the Executive Director. The student must communicate their willingness to participate in the program and their desire for change in their life. The student must have a hardship, such as academic challenges, legal problems, financial restraints, or family adversity, in order to be admitted into the program. Those accepted into the program should have a desire to grow and develop essential skills to become a productive citizen. Once accepted, the student will attend a New Student Orientation, in which they will learn of the program offerings and sign a letter of commitment. Each student is assigned a Case Manager that will serve as their mentor. The Case Manager sets goals with the student and progress monitors their forward movement. Furthermore, monthly student-led conferences are held with the student’s support system to communicate this information. Additionally, the Case Manager evaluates the student’s academic standing to ensure the best course of action towards acquiring the high school diploma or GED.
Gentlemen’s Quest is dedicated to helping our program participants realize their full potential as students, make positive choices regarding their academics and behavior, and equip them with the skills necessary to become productive citizens after they graduate. To accomplish this mission, we host workshops and activities that will provide students with strategies to be successful in difficult situations. Students attend meetings that are structured and targeted. The academic and behavioral progress of the students are monitored regularly. Throughout this process, their intellectual, emotional, and relational capacity expands by providing key experiences that contribute to their developmental growth.
As a result of the implementation of this endeavor, there will be
- a reduction of occurrences of misconduct,
- improved attendance at school,
- higher achievement in all subject areas, and
- increased awareness of one’s self.
